  • September board of directors meeting (9/21/2021)

The September board of directors meeting is being rescheduled to September 29.  Agenda will be posted on the 27.

  • Update 9-13-2021 (9/14/2021)
We had a little over three inches of rain from the tropical storm Nickolas as of Monday afternoon. Expect wet conditions in all bays and ranges; so please remember to stay on the improved roads and parking areas.
The good news is it was much needed rain, bad part is it changed the time table for us getting the sporting course back in order. To service the machines properly we pulled them out of the field. We will have to wait for it to dry up just a tad before we put them back out on the course to avoid tearing up the machines or the course. Please be patient we will get it operational as soon as it is safe to do so. Please call before you come out to check that we have reopened sporting clays if that is what you want to shoot.
Skeet, trap and five stand were not effected.
We will likely close five stand for a few days next week to service those machines .
  • Sporting Clay course closing on 9-12 for maintenance (9/5/2021)

Our Sporting Clay course will be closed on 9-12 for maintenance.  We have scheduled a team of Promatic staff to come in to do maintenance and provide additional training to our maintenance staff.  The course therefor has to be closed while staff is in the field.  Also the machines have to be empty to do the work required, we will start to empty the machines on Saturday evening (9-11).  By bringing in the Promatic experts we can continue to provide the excellent quality and reliability we have experienced from the Promatic throwers on our sporting clay course.  Our expectations are that the course will be open for normal business Tuesday Sept 14th.

    Thank you

  • Message 8/20/2021 (8/20/2021)

    Message from the Secretary 08/20/21

    Hi Members:

It’s been a wet, hot, slow summer at the club.  The unusual amount of rainfall in July caused flooding in the sporting clays fields and even the sidewalks to the clubhouse were inches deep in water for a couple of days.  This necessitated the cancellation of a registered sporting clays shoot, but through the hard work of our outstanding staff we were able to keep most of our operations open.  We have held our other regularly scheduled events, but open shooting has remained slow.  Talking to members, we believe this is a result of the rain, the heat and mostly the continued difficulty in finding ammunition and reloading supplies.  We have recent reports from members, however, that ammo is getting to be a little more plentiful and easier to find for those willing to put in the time to search for it.  Our inventory at the club remains pretty slim, but those hitting up the big retail sources are having more success.  Frequent trips to Academy and Walmart reportedly yield the best results.

Around the club:  if you’ve been out recently you’ve noticed some heavy equipment on the premises.  We have renovated and added on to our water system installing safety cut-off valves in case of emergency and additional spigots for irrigation and future projects.  We are also installing new drainage pipes and working on surface drainage.  Ironically the rainy weather that delayed progress of this project helped highlight problem areas that could be addressed.  With the equipment there we have also been able to take out dead foliage, relocate some trees and plant new ones as well as do some general landscaping.

Upcoming Events:  this Saturday 8/21/21 we will hold the Tropical Challenge registered sporting clays shoot.  Sunday 8/22/21 Coastal Bend Shooters will hold a falling steel match.  If you are interested in either event you can find more information on our website or by contacting the clubhouse.  New participants are encouraged and there are lots of experienced shooters happy to show you the ropes.  September has many shooting opportunities with two CBS matches, a steel challenge match and two sporting clays fundraiser shoots.  We should note that two sporting clays fundraising events have been cancelled in September at the discretion of the organizations holding them because of the rise of Covid-19 cases in the county.  We recommend that you check the calendar frequently to make sure any event you are interested in is still being held, and to see if previously cancelled events have been rescheduled.

Urgent:  it’s less than 3 months until we’ll be holding our annual meeting and election of board members.  As most of you know we have 9 directors on the board, and each year 3 positions come open for 3-year terms.  Per our bylaws, we must have at least 6 candidates on the ballot.  If you would like to participate in decisions about your club that will affect not only our current practice but also plans that will go far into the future, we are asking that you please consider running for the board.  If you are interested, please contact me, Craig or Theresa for any questions and an eligibility form.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please feel free to contact me at or a member of management at or 361-852-1212.  If you have tried emailing me before and I didn’t answer, I apologize, I found a filter sending emails to my “junk mail.”  I will try to respond to all emails.  See you at the club!

    Denise Newton

    Do your best Sundance!
  • “Beach’N Clays” NSCA shoot is cancelled (7/8/2021)
We are cancelling the NSCA registered sporting clay shoot “Beach’N Clays” scheduled for Saturday July 10. We are making the decision after discussions with our target setter for the shoot, Dan Carlisle, wanting to continue to throw the best possible targets we can set. Mother nature has provided conditions on the course that are not cooperating with our goals for great targets. We have had over 8 inches of rain in the last 24 hours with more predicted to be on the way.
Hope to see you in August for our next scheduled NSCA shoot “Tropical Challenge”.
